I
You were sweltering,
And, I was busy,
Busy, with finding some stability in my life,
And the rest is history.
II
You continued following in the footsteps of your brothers and sisters,
While we continued trying to learn to normalize death, loss, and restrictions;
And, denormalize systemic racism, hatred, and bigotry.
III
You brought in some form of ease,
With news of the panacea-the vaccine trials,
And, we saw a glimmer of hope-we really did.
But, as you gained momentum,
We witnessed:
arson in a French Cathedral,
hostage situation in a S.A. church,
And, arresting of students seeking rights in HK.
IV
In all of this, we proved it to ourselves,
that restriction was such an interchangeable idea,
Sometimes, useful to save lives,
While sometimes a hurdle to the same.
